      Mission

Our mission is to provide medical, educational, and financial support as well as cultural connections to members of underserved communities in Senegal.  This support includes, but is not limited to: mosquito bed nets to protect against malaria, school and health supplies, educational opportunities to empower women entrepreneurs, and a student pen pal program.

While in Senegal, this year, Project Safety Nets, under the leadership of Ann Dillard, participated in ceremonies which were held in the village of Rufisque where malaria education and 500 pre-treated mosquito bed nets were delivered to villagers.

The medical provider stated that they have found the mosquito bed net to be the single most effective way to prevent malaria in their community.  “Giving us a mosquito bed net is like saying, I am giving you life,” commented the village’s Imam (spiritual leader).

The Cite Radio Elementary school was also gifted with funds to help meet the educational needs of the children.  Mosquito bed nets were also distributed to students at two schools.

Another distribution was held in the Fulani Village at Pink Lake.  The chief stated that 2007 was the first year that no one in his village died from malaria.

As word of the distributions spread throughout the village, people ran to the medical center in droves to secure a mosquito bed net.   As many people as were served were turned away.

These testimonies speak to the importance of our project.
